1.2. History

Sung Hung Pagoda is a complex of Sung Nghia and Hung Nhan pagodas, which were constructed in the early 20th century. This pagoda is regarded as the oldest religious construction in Phu Quoc and serves as evidence of the island's long history. It has become a prestigious and sacred place for locals on the island to visit and pray for fortune and happiness.

During the two resistance wars against the US and France, Sung Hung Pagoda Phu Quoc became a reliable covert base so that revolutionary fighters could contact each other. Additionally, because of his respect for Ho Chi Minh, Thich Hue Chanh, the pagoda's seventh abbot, celebrated Uncle Ho's funeral after he passed away in 1969. The pagoda has been keeping up the worship of Uncle Ho for the last 40 years.
