2. History of Phap Bao Pagoda

Phap Bao Pagoda in Hoi An has a rich history dating back to its official establishment in 1980. Originally a temporary residence in Lakemba borrowed by the Vietnamese Buddhist community, it was later renamed Phap Bao after a year of operation. Due to its unfavorable location prone to natural disasters, authorities sought a new site, leading to its official construction in Western Sydney in 1984, expanding to 5000m2.

The pagoda's development was spearheaded by Thich Bao Lac, who introduced to Phap Bao Pagoda in Sydney during his studies in Japan by Thich Nhu Dien, ultimately birthing the revered Phap Bao Pagoda in Hoi An. In 2000, the pagoda underwent renovations, transforming into a prominent spiritual and scenic landmark nationwide.
