Hue and Hoi An are two popular cities to visit when you come to Vietnam. They are close to each other, so tourists can come to both Hue Hoi An to make the most out of their time in the country. It is best to go to Hue first, then Hoi An. Learn more about how to get from Hue to Hoi An and vice versa below.

1. Things to know about the distance between Hue Hoi An

2. How many directions can you choose for your Hue Hoi An trips?

From Hue’s city center, start your journey at Nguyen Tat Thanh Street. Head to National Road 1A, then Ly Thanh Tong Street, then Phuoc Tuong Tunnel.

Out of the tunnel, turn right to continue down National Road 1A. Keep going until you reach the junction of Hai Van Pass. At this point, you can carry on with National Road 1A or turn right to go through the pass.

If you choose the latter, you can stop at the back of the pass to do some sightseeing. You can take some lovely photos as well. However, refrain from coming here in the morning or late at night for safety reasons. And be careful when you are whipping out your phones and cameras.

Going past Hai Van Pass, go straight to Lien Chieu Bridge, then Nguyen Van Cu Street. Cross Nam O Bridge to Nguyen Luong Bang Street - Nguyen Tat Thanh Street - Nguyen Sinh Sac Street - Hoang Thi Loan Street - Truong Chinh Street - Le Dai Hanh Street - Nguyen Huu Tho Street.

Keep going straight to Nguyen Tri Phuong Bridge. From here, head to Vo Chi Cong Street, then make a right onto Tran Dai Nghia Street. You are almost there! Just a bit more and you will reach Hoi An.

Alternatively, if you stick with National Road 1A, drive to the tunnel and park your vehicle at the Hai Van Pass Tunnel Management Board. A truck there will take your vehicle through the tunnel while you will ride a shuttle to the other side and pick up your vehicle.

Get the wheels running again and make a left at the roundabout onto Ta Quang Buu Street. At the end of the street, turn right onto Nguyen Van Cu Street and continue as instructed above.

3. Means of transportation to travel from Hue to Hoi An and vice versa

There are four means of transportation to get to Hoi An from Hue: bus, taxi, motorbike, or train. Each has its share of pros and cons.

3.1. By bus

Taking the bus from Hue to Hoi is a popular option because it is fairly cheap. Prices range from 65,000 VND to 150,000 VND, depending on the service provider. Here are a few to consider:

  • KT Travel: 90,000 VND per seat on a 33-seater
  • TheSinhTourist: 99,000 VND per seat on a 39-seater
  • Happy Travel: 170,000 VND per seat on a 6-seater
  • Huetourist: 190,000 VND per seat in a 28-seater

You can purchase bus tickets at the Phia Nam Bus Station (Southern Bus Station in English). Rest assured that the vehicles at the bus station are easy to find.

However, it can take a lot of time to head to the bus station directly. Instead, you can book your bus tickets online and simply wait until the departure time to arrive.

There are many convenient ticket-booking websites. You just need to hop on the Internet for a quick search. Visit a website and enter the departure point, destination, as well as departure date to select your desired bus. Another option is booking through a reputable Hue Hoi An travel agency.

When traveling by bus, you will be sharing the vehicle with other Hue Hoi An visitors, and the bus will not depart until everyone has boarded. If you are early, you should find something to do and kill time. Moreover, the buses will take the Hai Van tunnel route, so you will not get to admire the view of the pass along the way.

Besides buses, you can choose to ride in limousines. They are more comfortable but slightly pricier. Prices start at 140,000 VND per person. Some limousine companies that you can refer to are:

  • A21 Tours Limousines
  • Hoang Duc Limousines
  • Dong Hanh Limousines
  • Culture Pham Travel Limousines

3.2. By taxi

Another option is to grab a taxi from Hue to Hoi An. This is a more straightforward method, as you just need to call for service and rely on the driver to do most of the work. You also do not have to share the space with anyone else on the ride. However, given the distance between Hue and Hoi An, the fare will not be cheap.

3.3. By motorbike

This is the best way to get from Hue to Hoi An for those who like to soak in the view along the way. The biggest advantage of riding a motorbike is that you have full control of how to travel between the two cities.

If you see a beautiful sight and want to take a selfie, you can freely slow down or stop. There are many scenic spots between Hue and Hoi An, such as Hai Van Pass and Lang Co Bay, that you might want to contemplate.

However, it is worth noting that this is the most tiring option out of the four, as you will have to do all the driving.

Traveling to Hoi An on a motorbike, do not forget to bring your driver’s license. Make sure you obey traffic safety laws and be mindful of large trucks on the roads.

3.4. By train

The train is another means of transport that you can choose to go from Hue to Hoi An. However, as the train will carry you to Da Nang, you will need to take an additional transfer bus from Da Nang to Hoi An. There are many seat classes, with fares ranging from 50,000 VND to 100,000 VND.

Even though the route is a bit inconvenient, this is still a good option if you want to sit and sightsee at the same time without spending too much money. When the train arrives at Hai Van Pass, you can admire the magnificent view through the windows and snap some photos for keepsakes.
