Pongour Falls

Surrounded by lush greenery, this waterfall offers a serene escape for those seeking tranquility and leaves a lasting impression on all who visit.

1. About Pongour Falls, Dalat

Pongour Falls is located in Tan Nghia Hamlet, Ninh Gia Commune, Duc Trong District, Lam Dong Province. It is approximately 50 kilometers south of the city center of Dalat. This waterfall originates from the magnificent Da Nhim River, standing over 40 meters tall and spanning a width of up to 100 meters.

To reach this stunning waterfall, visitors can take either the gently sloping paths or descend down the stepping stone path. Upon reaching the falls, tourists will be mesmerized by its breathtaking grandeur. The cascading water rushes vigorously from above, creating a large water body that sprays white mist.

Moreover, this waterfall is enveloped by a pristine forest covering an area of over 2.5 hectares. Its majestic beauty led King Bao Dai to give it the title of the best waterfall in Southern Vietnam. It was also considered the most beautiful waterfall in Indochina at that time.

2. The legend of Pongour Waterfall Dalat

Pongour Falls is associated with a legend of a beautiful girl and her four rhinoceroses, who protected the villagers by relocating mountains, diverting streams, and clearing fields.

When the girl passed away, her hair transformed into a majestic waterfall known as Pongour Falls. The moss-covered rocks beneath the falls represent the horns of the rhinoceroses. This story is also the origin of the name “Pongour” - which means "rhinoceros horn" in the indigenous K'Ho language.

Furthermore, the name "7-level waterfall" is often referred to by the locals due to the water flowing down through 7 levels of rocks, creating an unforgettably majestic scene.
