The third rhino was born healthy at Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc
According to the representative of Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc, the newborn rhino belongs to one of the five rare rhino species still exist. It is female, weighs more than 60kg.
Ceratotherium simum simum is the scientific name of this rhino. The mother rhino gave birth successfully after only 15 minutes of labor. And the baby rhino was also breastfed in less than 45 minutes. Examination shows the baby rhino is in good health and has strong survival instincts.
Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc's staff named the newborn rhino Winnie, which means "victory". They all hope that the rhino girl Winnie will be a meaningful gift, bringing confidence and optimism to everyone during this difficult pandemic time. Thus, Winnie became the 27th member of the rhino herd, and the 4th individual born in Vietnam during the past 10 years.
According to vets and caretakers at Vinpearl Safari, the birth rate of African white rhinos is often very low in conservation parks, due to potential risks during pregnancy. Meanwhile, the environment and care are also required at a very high level for smooth pregnancy and labor process. For pairing and mating of rhinos, experts are required to have exceptional technique and ability to support for the animals mentally.
The healthy birth of Winnie proves a suitable living environment for rhinos to grow and maintain their instincts at Vinpearl Safari.
Live evidences for wildlife care and conservation at Vinpearl Safari
Before Winnie, Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc also welcomed two baby rhinos named Hakuna Matata and Ca Phe (Coffee) in April 2019.
After nearly a year, Matata and Ca Phe have grown healthy, and are taken care of by doctors and staff regularly. Until now, these two rhinos have weighed between 600 and 700 kg, and are expected to soon reach adult size at the age of 3 to 5 rhino years old.
Having good care and preservation conditions, Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc is the place nurturing the largest white rhino herd in Vietnam. Besides, many other animal species are also being propagated continuously at the Vinpearl Safari’s facilities.
Recently, Vinpearl River Safari South Hoi An has welcomed four African white lion individuals. In February, three white tiger and two sika deer were born. Besides, Vinpearl River Safari is also the first place to successfully hatch black-necked swans in Vietnam.
Thanks to strict environmental standards and achievements, after only one year, in October 2019, Vinpearl Safari was recognized as a member of the World Association of Zoos. 3 Vinpearl Safaris are located in Phu Quoc, Nha Trang and South Hoi An, operating under two models: Safari - semi-wild park and river safari – on river tour park.
Up to now, there are 655 newborn individuals and nearly 5,000 individuals of 250 species being cared for and conserved in the entire system of Vinpearl Safari.
