The best way to reach Sapa, especially for those who live in rural areas further away, is by getting to Hanoi first, then going from Hanoi to Sapa. The distance is about 320 kilometers, taking roughly 5 to 8 hours of travel. 

1.1. By train

To travel to Sapa by train, you will need to take an overnight train from Hanoi to Lao Cai, which is the closest major town to Sapa. The train journey typically takes around 8–9 hours. From Lao Cai, you can then take a bus or taxi to Sapa, which is about an hour’s drive away. 

All the trains along the Hanoi - Lao Cai route run overnight. A single journey takes approximately 8 hours, with departures around 9:30 PM and 10:00 PM.

You can check the ticket prices from operators like Sapaly Express, Victoria Express, and Chapa Express. Prices range from 250,000 VND to 1,800,000 VND. The exact amount you pay depends on the class and type of seat, as well as if you have additional requests, like soft cushions.

Flying to Sapa might not be the most direct option, as you would still need to travel by road after landing. However, if you prefer air travel or if there are limited options, going from Hanoi Airport to Sapa can be an alternative to consider.
