Quy Nhon Port: Key information & useful travel tips

12/10/2025 2.200

Quy Nhon Port is one of the most important deep-water ports along central Vietnam’s coastline. It has long served as a vital trade hub linking Vietnam’s Central Highlands, Laos, and Cambodia with the global maritime network.

1. Key things to know about Quy Nhon Port

1.1. Location

Quy Nhon Port is situated at No. 2, Phan Chu Trinh Street, Quy Nhon Ward, Gia Lai Province (formerly Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province). It lies at the eastern end of National Road 19, which directly connects to National Road 1A.

Quy Nhon Port has grown into one of Vietnam’s busiest seaports

Quy Nhon Port’s connectivity makes it highly accessible: about 260 kilometers away from the Vietnam-Cambodia border, 310 kilometers away from the Vietnam-Laos border, 15 kilometers away from Dieu Tri Railway Station, and 30 kilometers away from Phu Cat Airport. This network of routes has positioned Quy Nhon Port as a key maritime gateway for the South Central Coast, the Central Highlands, and neighboring countries.

1.2. History

Quy Nhon Port holds a unique place in Vietnam’s history with two major milestones. The first was during the implementation of the Geneva Agreement of 1954, when the country was temporarily divided. As part of the Agreement, the port was chosen as the only gathering point in the South for Viet Minh forces to go to the North. From 1954 to 1955, thousands of soldiers from the South Central Coast and Central Highlands departed from Quy Nhon Port.

The second milestone came after the reunification of Vietnam. On January 19, 1976, the Ministry of Transport officially established Quy Nhon Port. Built on the remains of a former military port, it had very limited facilities in its early years. However, it quickly became a critical part of the country’s post-war reconstruction efforts.

1.3. Significance

Today, Quy Nhon Port is one of the largest export-import hubs in central Vietnam, handling a wide range of goods including agricultural products, timber, and minerals. Its presence has accelerated the economic development of Binh Dinh, attracting logistics companies and encouraging the growth of processing industries for seafood, produce, and forestry products.

The port also plays a role in promoting tourism. With the increasing arrival of international cruise ships, Quy Nhon is now on the itinerary of many tourists.

1.4. Facilities & services

Quy Nhon Port has a total berth length of more than 1,000 meters, divided across seven piers. It can accommodate vessels with a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of up to 70,000 tons. In addition to cargo handling, the port also offers ship repair and maintenance services. This combination of infrastructure and service allows Quy Nhon Port to meet the demands of both domestic and international shipping lines.
